The US has approved the sale of chicken created from animal cells, allowing two companies from California to sell their products to high-end restaurants (for now, it’s still too expensive for supermarkets). Upside Foods and Good Meat received approval from the Agriculture Department to sell meat and poultry in the US, after the food standards body said the products were safe to eat. It makes the US the second country in the world, after Singapore, to approve the sale of lab-grown meat – supporters called it a “giant step forward” for those concerned about the environmental impact of meat production and animal welfare.
