Somewhere, over the rainbow

Somewhere, over the rainbow

“Being gay, you approach getting older with a fear of loneliness and illness,” drag queen Scarlett Harlett explains in a short film about seven drag queens skydiving for the Princess Alice Hospice. Age UK reports older LGBT people are less likely to engage with palliative care. Harlett, Crystal, Rhys Pieces, Kiki Snatch, Le Fil, Honey Foxx and Rosie Zinfandel, from RuPaul’s Drag Race and Sound of the Underground, hurled themselves in full drag from 10,000 feet to raise awareness and money. Props to Rosie Zinfandel for catching a fake lash mid-dive, but when the sky lit up with a rainbow cloud just as the queens jumped – a rare atmospheric event known as a “fire rainbow” caused by ice crystals in high-level cirrus clouds scattering sunshine – well, we teared up.
