On 10 July a former Russian submarine commander, Stanislav Rzhitskii, was shot dead with seven bullets on his morning run in Krasnodar, southern Russia (he reportedly posted his regular route on a fitness app). Ukraine had accused him of carrying out Kalibr cruise missile strikes from the Black Sea on the city of Vinnytsia last summer, killing 27 civilians. Ukrainian military intelligence denied its responsibility for the murder, but posted a statement including details of the killing on its Telegram channel. A 64 year-old suspect, Sergey Denysenko, was arrested and confessed to the murder; he is reportedly a karate teacher from Ukraine who had recently moved to Switzerland.
