These are not the coins you’re looking for

These are not the coins you’re looking for

The Royal Mint has issued a series of collectible 50p coins bearing King Charles on one side and R2D2 and C3PO on the other in honour of the 40th anniversary of the second worst Star Wars film in the franchise, Return of the Jedi. Just eight per cent of consumer spending in 2022 was cash, so it’s reassuring to find the mint is still minting. Collectors may be delighted to pay £11 for a 50p coin with R2D2 on it, but surely only the Emperor himself will stump up the galactic credit equivalent of £2,770 required for the gold version. Ironically, online payment is recommended.
