Debate raged this week about whether Angela, a sun bear residing in China’s Hangzhou Zoo, was really a zookeeper in costume. Around 20,000 people a day flocked to the zoo following a viral video showing the creature standing tall at the edge of its enclosure on long slender legs, with what looked like fun fur bagging around its hips. “Our zoo is government-run, so that kind of situation would not happen,” a member of staff insisted on the zoo’s official WeChat. Other Chinese zoos have, however, been accused of trying to pass off dogs dyed to look like wolves and donkeys painted as zebras. And wait… aren’t those shoes Angela is wearing?
