Appropriately for a show with two old geezers in leading roles, Only Murders is improving with age. Season Three brings back Martin Short’s washed-up director, Steve Martin’s unsuccessful actor and Selena Gomez’s aimless 20-something to investigate yet another murder in the building (upmarket New York mansion block, The Arconia) but throws in guest stars Meryl Streep, Paul Rudd and Ashley Park to steal a few scenes. The plot, such as it is, sees Short’s chance at a return to directing falter when his leading actor Rudd drops dead on opening night. But the murder isn’t really the point. It’s the curmudgeonly trio’s vain bickering that sells this presumably final series.
