Zoom wants staff back in the office

Zoom, the video communications company that became synonymous with home working during the pandemic, has asked its staff to return to the office. Is this the end of WFH? Not quite  – the San Francisco-based firm is only asking staff to return two days a week, and only if they live within 50 miles of one of its locations. Nicholas Bloom, an economics professor at Stanford University who researches remote work, said most Zoom employees were already hybrid working, so the move made sense: “If you are paying for office space and high Bay Area salaries it makes sense to operate on a hybrid schedule.” Worth noting: according to Bloom’s research, nearly half of 20-29 year-olds supposedly working from home aren’t. They’re at someone else’s house, a cafe or another “public space”.
