A flurry of “Not for EU” posters have started appearing in shops in Northern Ireland as part of the revised Brexit deal known as the Windsor Framework. Supermarkets including Asda and Tesco have pre-empted a Sunday deadline, and other retailers are expected to follow suit. The Windsor Framework, agreed by Rishi Sunak and Ursula von der Leyen earlier this year, was designed to ease the flow of goods between Britain and NI, which had been hindered by the original Brexit agreement. Under the new rules, produce heading east-to-west across the Irish Sea will not face extra checks as long as it’s not intended for onward trade into the Republic of Ireland, which remains in the EU. Shoppers from the Republic of Ireland can continue to take goods home from NI supermarkets but the goods cannot be re-sold across the border.
