A serial rebel who brought down at least one prime minister, Baker isn’t one to hide his feelings. The self-described “hard man of Brexit” was cut off by his former brothers-in-arms when he took a ministerial job under Rishi Sunak, but has now dissed Sunak by refusing to cancel a half-term trip to Greece during an election campaign and complaining of newly minted policies being “sprung on” candidates without warning. Baker has opposed gay marriage, proposed a return to the gold standard, denied the existence of a climate crisis and, in an earlier life, spent ten years in the RAF.
